A Research on the Current Situation of College English Teaching in Higher Vocational College: A Case Study of Lijiang Teachers College

Abstract: Due to the different sources and levels of students, college English teaching has always en-countered diffculties in higher vocational college. Taking Lijiang Teachers College as an example, withmethods of stratified random sampling, this research investigated students of 36 majors in this college.The result shows that students are generally poor in English, and they lack interests and proper ways ofstudy. Furthermore , teachers pay less attention on listening and speaking. Teachers can strengthen basicEnglish tutoring through stratified teaching, gradually cultivate students’interest in English by adoptingtarget teaching methods and so forth , strengthen the teaching of listening and speaking and communicaion skills, cultivating correct learning methods , so as to effectively improve the effect of English teachingin higher vocational colleges.
