Readability Measurement of the New York Times

Abstract:

The New York Times,globally released in New York,USA,featured by its varied and rich contents,is a very good learning resource to English learners.  Readability refers to the degree to which the written materials can he easily read and understood,the measurement of which means a lot to reading comprehension and reading teaching.  The author measured and analyzed the readability of the New York Times with the software AntWordProfiler.  The results indicate that there is high proportion of new words and it is not suitable for college non-English major as reading materials in classroom teaching.  However,as a globally influential English magazine,the New York Times is diversified and rich in contents,making it a useful resource to improve English vocabulary and reading ability out of the classroom.
