Abstract: Abstract:Exploringthedrivingfactorsandtheirinteractionmechanismsofurbanexpansionplaysanim
portantroleintherationalplanningofcities.Mostexistingstudiesdepictthecharacteristicsanddriving
mechanismsofurbanexpansionfromamacroperspectiveoflargescales,whichisdifficulttomeetthe
needforafinerepresentationoftheurbanexpansionprocess.Therefore,thisarticleproposedadetection
methodbasedonsmallscaledistrictstoexplorethedrivingfactorsandmechanismsofurbanexpansion,
aimingtoaddresstheaforementionedissues.Firstly,thecharacteristicsofurbanlandscapeexpansion
werecharacterizedusingtheMultiorderAdjacencyIndex(MAI).Secondly,aspatialheterogeneityas
sociationmodelbetweenMAIanddrivingfactorswasestablishedusingtheGeodetector.Finally,the
drivingfactorsandtheirinteractionmechanismsofurbanlandscapeexpansionweredetectedusingthea
bovemodel.TakingChenggongdistrictofKunmingcityasanexample,theresultsshowthat:1)The
urbanizationdevelopmentofChenggongdistricthassignificantspatialandtemporalheterogeneity,demon
stratingthemaindrivingmechanismofroadconstructionsupplementedbyterrainslopeduringbothhigh
speedandslowdownperiodsofurbanexpansion.2)Insmallscaleurbanexpansion,theinteractionof
multipledrivingfactorsismoreobvious.Thisstudyprovidesareferenceforthefinedescriptionofthe
processofsmallscaleurbanexpansionandtheexplorationofitsdrivingmechanism
