Abstract: Asasubjectivesocialmentalityconstructedbypeopleinsocialpractice,languageattitudesaffectpeoplesuseoflanguage.ThesurveyontheTainationalityslanguageuseandattitudeswillhelptoexploretheactualsituationofthedevelopmentandinheritanceofTailanguage.Inthecurrentstudy,qualitativeandquantitativemethodsarebothusedtoinvestigatelanguageuseandtheattitudesoftheTaiundergraduates.Itisfoundthat:Taiundergraduates’overallcommandofMandarinisgood,andtheirabilityofTailanguageisnotasgoodasthatofMandarin;Tailanguageisthemostfrequentlyusedintheinternallanguageregister.However,intheexternalregister,thefrequencyofuseofMandarinisthehighest;theTaiundergraduatesgenerallyhaveapositiveattitudeandahighdegreeofpreferenceandloyaltytowardstheirmothertongue,andastrongsenseofnationalidentity.
