Translation of Non-commercial Slogans under Functional Equivalence Theory

Abstract: Withthedeepeningoftheinternationalcommunication,manyofthecityssloganshavebeentranslatedintoEnglish,butmistakesintranslationcanbeseen.ThroughtheanalysisofNidasfunctionalequivalencetranslationtheory,thefeasibilityofequivalencetranslationtheoryinslogantranslationisillustratedbyexamplesofthefunctionofslogans.Thispaperexpoundstheprincipleoffunctionalequivalencetranslationtheoryinslogantranslation,pointingoutthatslogansshouldconformtothelinguisticfeaturesandculturalbackgroundsofthereadersandavoidculturalconflicts,thuseffectivelyrealizingthecommunicativefunctionandpropagandapurposeofslogans.
