Abstract: Thereareobviousdifferencesinstrengthparametersofexpansivesoilswithdifferentpropertiesorloadingconditionsduringexpansionandcontraction.Inordertopreliminarilyexploretherelationshipbetweenthestrengthparameterreductionandtheloadandtheswellingforceofthesoilitself,thestrengthparameterreductionexperimentsandthecorrelationexperimentsbetweentheswellingforceandthestrengthreductionwerecarriedout.Theexperimentalresultsshowthatwiththeincreaseofload,thedecreaseamplitudeofstrengthparametersdeclines,suchascohesionCvalueandinternalfrictionangledecreasedfrom72.32% and77.22% at5kPato34.93% and27.42% at40kPa,respectively;andthedecreaseamplitudeofexpansiveforceandstrengthparametergraduallypositivelycorrelatedwiththeincreaseofload.Theresultsshowthattheloadhasacontrollingeffectonthestrengthdrop,mainlyontheinhibitionoffracturedevelopment;thecorrelationbetweentheexpansionforceandthestrengthparameterdropisrelatedtotheloadstate;theratiooftheloadandtheexpansionforceisnegativelyrelatedtotheoveralltrendofthestrengthdrop.
